The Truth About Beyonce's Crash Diet

Beyonce made headlines yet again with her new, slimmed down body. It has been reported that Beyonce lost 20 pounds in a matter of weeks to prepare for an upcoming film role. Just how did she manage to lose so much weight in such a short period of time?

British newspaper the Daily Express claims the former Destiny's Child beauty adopted a "maple syrup" diet to shed to pounds as she prepared for her role in "Dreamgirls." Beyonce reportedly mixed the syrup with water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper -- and it constituted her every meal over a period of days.

Dietician Alison Chipperfield, who works with British group Weight Concern, says, "The problem is not what's in the diet but what's not.

"There are no fats, proteins, vitamins or minerals and the only carbohydrate is in the form of sugar ... People would start to feel very lethargic and would be unable to concentrate. They will probably end up in the hospital, especially people who try it for more than 10 days."

This maple syrup and lemon juice diet has become a popular method of quick weight loss but it certainly doesn't sound like the safest diet program in the world. We recommend asking your physician about this diet plan before you proceed.

Beyonce has warned women not to follow her maple syrup diet, insisting that she's very happy with her curves and voluptious body shape. The singer lost 20 pounds in 10 days on the liquid diet as she prepared for a new role as a soul diva in new film Dreamgirls.

The maple syrup diet, however, prompted severe criticism from health experts leading Beyonce to urge other women to follow a more sensible weight loss program.

''My nutritionist suggested the only way to do that was the fast (liquid diet program). As soon as it was over I gained the weight back. I would never recommend the diet to anyone unless you are doing a movie and it's necessary, and you have proper help. There are ways to lose weight healthily if you want to lose weight, but this was for a film.''

The controversial but popular diet plan consists of maple syrup mixed with water, lemon juice and cayenne pepper, which is consumed as liquids instead of meals.

One stockist, the Luscious Organic shop in Kensington, west London, said the product was selling "like hot cakes" to women in their 20s and 30s. Nutritionists warn the syrup does not contain sufficient nutrients and dieters could end up in hospital if they try it for more than few days.
